TxDOT offers safety tips for drivers around schools

Despite much lower traffic levels around Texas schools due to the pandemic, there were still hundreds of crashes in school zones last year. So as millions of Texas students return to class, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to watch out for kids walking and biking to school to keep everyone safe.

USDA accepting applications to help cover costs for organic certification

Organic producers and handlers can now apply for U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds to assist with the cost of receiving or maintaining organic certification. Applications for the Organic Certification Cost Share Program (OCCSP) are due Nov. 1, 2021.

$4.5M Tahoka street bond goes before voters in Nov. 2 election

TAHOKA – Tahoka City Council voted 3-2 Monday to call for a special election on Nov. 2 for voters to consider a $4.5 million street bond project. Council members Ray Box, Shiloh Braddock and Courtney Stennett voted in favor of a motion calling for the election, and council members Ronny Jolly and Ryan Curry voted against the motion.

HONOR GRADUATE

Kamryn Pepper, daughter of Kevin and Michelle Pepper, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications from Texas Tech University on Aug. 7. Earning the highest grade point average in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with a 4.0, Kamryn was the banner bearer for the college. Kamryn is a 2018 graduate of Klondike High School. She is shown with Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec.

BIDCorp approves school’s workforce development grant

BROWNFIELD – The Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp) held its monthly board meeting and heard a request from Brownfield Independent School District (BISD) Superintendent Chris Smith for a Workforce Development Grant with BISD and Lubbock Economic Development Alliance.
