The Cotton Board recently held its 2021 Annual Meeting, in-person, in Durham, North Carolina, along with Cotton Incorporated’s Board of Directors. Board members serving the Cotton Research and Promotion Program voted to recommend Cotton Incorporated’s 2022 budget of $82 million to the Secretary of Agriculture. This budget recommendation reflects a $2 million increase from 2021.
TAHOKA – A historic brick building that has stood for more than a century on the southwest corner of the square in Tahoka, at South 2nd and Ave. J, will soon be coming down.
SLATON – The Slaton Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) approved Leading EDG to help existing and future businesses with coaching.
SEMINOLE – In the presence of a standing-room-only crowd, residents of Seminole spoke passionately against Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) proposed one-way relief route, and the city council listened intently. As a result, no one on the council, seated in front of the crowd of 100 plus citizens, made a motion to accept TxDOT’s resolution, and the much-debated issue died. The move was greeted with thunderous applause.
ANDREWS – The city erected half a dozen signs at Lakeside Park this week to caution residents about a possible blue-green algae bloom in the city lake.
SNYDER – On Aug. 21, Cogdell Memorial Hospital reported that over the previous six days staff had conducted 496 COVID-19 tests with 91 being positive.
Preston E. Smith Prison Unit officials are now accepting applications for correctional officers to work at the unit here.
Klondike school board members are scheduled Monday to take action on a new budget and tax rate for the 2021-2022 school year.
The school’s proposed budget and tax rate will be the main focus of two meetings scheduled Monday by the Dawson school board in Welch.
Dawson County Hospital District (DCHD) board members are finishing up the final business on the tax rate during a special meeting at 5 p.m., Tuesday meeting in the Medical Arts Hospital’s conference room at 2200 N. Bryan Ave.
