Beginning work on the city’s 2021-2022 budget, Lamesa City Council members are looking at inflation, lower interest rates, staggering construction costs, lower appraisal values, increased gas prices and an estimation that things aren’t going to improve any time soon.
It is as much a part of summer as swimming pools, watermelon, hot dogs and air conditioning.
When experienced law enforcement officers call the Lamesa Police Department (LPD) about job openings, they at first voice interest in working here. But once they hear about the salary, the conversation stops, according to Police Chief Josh Peterson.
