LARA GETS MASTER’S DEGREE

Steven Cain Lara recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. He has been accepted to The University of Texas at Houston School of Public Health where he will be working towards his PhD. Cain is the son of George Lara Jr. and Ami Lara of Midland. He is the grandson of Randy and Terry Goolsby of Lamesa, George Lara Sr. of Midland, and the late Maria Lara; and the great-grandson of Janice York of Lamesa.

County’s former debt from WCS bond paid by new owner

ANDREWS – Though Andrews County was already off the hook with debt involved from a unique 2009 bond election to finance Waste Control Specialists’ low-level disposal landfill, it was still good to hear the remaining note was paid in full earlier this month, according to county officials.

Lamesa fi refi ghter Jerry Cagle uses a hydraulic rescue tool to get the driver’s side doors open on this pickup which was involved in collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of Highways 87 and 349 just south of Lamesa. The driver and lone occupant of the pickup reportedly suffered very serious injuries and was expected to be transported to Lubbock af-ter leaving the scene in a Medical Arts Hospital ambulance. Initial information at the scene indicates a tractor-trailer rig was headed south on Highway 87 and struck the back of the Ford F-150 pickup, which then struck a four-door Audi Q7 passenger car.
