Beginning work on the city’s 2021-2022 budget, Lamesa City Council members are looking at inflation, lower interest rates, staggering construction costs, lower appraisal values, increased gas prices and an estimation that things aren’t going to improve any time soon.
It is as much a part of summer as swimming pools, watermelon, hot dogs and air conditioning.
When experienced law enforcement officers call the Lamesa Police Department (LPD) about job openings, they at first voice interest in working here. But once they hear about the salary, the conversation stops, according to Police Chief Josh Peterson.

Dawson County and its neighbors continue to lag far behind the rest of the state in the percentage of eligible residents who have been vaccinated for COVID-19.
