With only one returning player with much varsity experience, Sands Coach Billy Grumbles knew his 10th season as the head boys basketball coach at Ackerly would be challenging. But the first two days in this weekend’s Meadow Tournament have been promising for Grumbles and company. The Mustangs lost their first game in that tournament to Lubbock’s Kingdom Prep, 46-34. “This was probably the hardest I’ve seen a group play not only this season but maybe in five years,” Grumbles said. “Our guys did a lot of good things in this game.” Riley Webb and Cody Staggs had nine points each to lead the Mustangs.
