The Lamesa Golden Tornado girls outscored the top-ranked Class 4A basketball team in the state during the final two quarters of their district-opening game here Friday evening.
Unfortunately, they could not make up for a big first-half deficit to the hot-shooting Levelland squad and fell by a score of 68-49.
“The game was a tale of two halves,” Lamesa Coach Shai Young said. “Levelland shot 91 percent in the first half. Anyone going against that will have a hard time.”
Levelland outscored Lamesa 22-3 in the first quarter and 21-6 in the second to lead 43-9 at halftime.
