Lamesa High School seniors Felipe Carnero and Mariah Rivas teamed up for a strong third-place finish in mixed doubles at last weekend’s season-opening tennis tournament at Denver City.
Carnero and Rivas won their first two matches, beating teams from Lubbock All Saints, 7-5, and Lubbock’s Kingdom Prep, 7-2. They lost their final match to a private school out of Levelland, 6-2 and 6-3.
“They’re two of our strongest players so we decided to put them together and see what they can do. They played really well,” said Golden Tornado new head tennis coach Jose Lucio.
