What started out looking like a rout turned into an exciting contest as the state-ranked Sands High School basketball girls held off Klondike by a score of 51-45 on Friday at Ackerly.
It was the first district game for both teams.
Sands jumped out to an 11-0 lead before the Lady Cougars scored their first point with just 2:40 left in the first quarter. The Lady ‘Stangs held a 16-6 lead at the end of that opening period and led 30-15 at the half.
