The Sands Mustangs aren’t only in the Class 1A state boys basketball playoffs for the first time in a couple of years, but after Friday’s bi-district game against Meadow they’ve also got their first gold ball in five seasons.
The Mustang boys now find themselves heading to the second round after taming the Broncos, 61-43. It’s thought to be the Mustangs’ first playoff win since 2016.
“Tonight’s big for us. Our guys did a great job,” Sands Coach Billy Grumbles said.
“As much as this year’s seniors have been through, we were hoping to see those guys get one of those gold basketballs.
