A 5K and one-mile race planned for this Friday to benefit Lamesa Legacy Co-op, has been called off as a result of last Saturday’s storm.
The storm uprooted trees, muddied parking lots and broke branches at Forrest Park where the race was planned. More rainfall is predicted this coming weekend.
“There’s no reason to do that when the whole town is recuperating from a natural disaster,” said Danielle McElwee, organizer. “So, yes, we’re canceling it.”
The race was supposed to bring out walkers and runners to participate in the run scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. near the park’s bathrooms.
