The Sands Mustangs boys fell just short of bringing home any medals from Monday morning’s Class 1A State Cross Country Championships at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The Mustangs and Jayton Jaybirds were tied for third place when the boys 5K race was finished. After the tiebreaker, however, Jayton was awarded third place and Sands fourth in the final team standings. “We both finished at 120 but Jayton averaged 18:02 per runner and we averaged 18:03 so they ended up getting third,” Sands Coach Dustin Wall said. “Being that close wasn’t a lot of fun.
