Sands girls basketball Coach Ben Connell remember once meeting Hall-of-Fame high school Coach Dean Weese. When Dean Weese retired from the coaching in 1999 he had over 1,200 career coaching wins and 10 state championships, seven of which were at Levelland, during a 42-year coaching career. Now Connell has been presented with a prestigious coaching award named in honor of Weese. Connell is the Class 1A recipient of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Dean Weese Outstanding Coach Award.
