Initial appraisal estimates from the Dawson County Central Appraisal District are good news for the Lamesa school system, according to Superintendent Jim Knight.
Appraised property values are up about $50 million from a year ago in those initial estimates, Knight said during Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Lamesa school board.
“It’s a rough estimate,” Knight emphasized about those initial figures.
Final taxable property values normally are not determined until sometime in July.
Those values are important because they are used in setting local property tax rates and in determining the amount of tax revenue the school district can expect.
