Lamesa’s second- through fifth-graders came home with the runner-up title along with seven first place prizes and 12 students scoring in the top three spots in a recent University Interscholastic League competition in Denver City.
All students in the Lamesa school system will be completing the school year on May 20 as the result of a change to the school calendar approved by board members during their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening.

About 40 farmers from across the area were in attendance at the annual South Mesa Agricultural Conference held Thursday at the LeeRoy Colgan community building. Hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office here, the conference featured information about weeds, reducing pesticide applications plant pathogens, the cotton economy and the best crops to plant after a cotton crop fails.
