About 500 people were served a free Thanksgiving meal during the ninth annual charity event organized and served by local volunteers.
Only about 40-50 people showed up to be served in person at the Lames High School cafeteria but more than 400 take-out plates were delivered throughout the community, according to organizer Alice Ortegon.
The event was made possible by many donations and the efforts of volunteers who cooked, served and delivered the meals, then cleaned up afterwards.
“This wouldn’t be possible without the community coming together and doing this, so thank you,” Ortegon said.
