Vera spurs COVID discussion

Newly installed Lamesa City Council member Fred Vera spent part of his first council meeting Tuesday night reminding city staff to wear masks to protect themselves from COVID-19. The virus has already killed at least nine and infected 1,000 Dawson County residents since last spring. Vera stepped into the council’s District 2 seat that Marie Briseno retired from after serving 24.5 years as a city council member. Vera took the oath of office at the start of the meeting.
