Disappointed with some of the public response to efforts to clean up Lamesa, local officials are taking a new approach and getting the youth of the community involved.
Teenagers who skip school can be faced with fines for their truancy. Instead of families paying the $303 fine, teens can instead do community service.
Officials are working together to use those students on Saturday mornings to pick up discarded trash across the city.
