A storm like the one that hit Lamesa last Saturday – particularly the intense rainfall in a short period of time – is not often seen in West Texas.
In fact, the rate of rainfall was capturing the attention of National Weather Service (NWS) personnel in both Lubbock and Midland even as it was happening.
Although the rainfall was too distant to pick up well on their radars, the realtime information they were getting from the West Texas Mesonet automated weather station on the southern edge of Lamesa was catching their eyes.
