A state study has indicated Dawson County needs a jail that will hold 42 more prisoners than the current 54-bed facility that was built in 1997.
That was the main recommendation of a Facility Needs Analysis prepared for Dawson County by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
Sheriff Matt Hogg said the study is part of the requirements as the county considers various options to increase the prisoner holding capacity here.
