It is hard to do much better than what the Lamesa school district’s band program has accomplished this school year. This past week both the varsity Wind Ensemble and the sub-varsity Symphonic Band secured prestigious Sweepstakes honors after capturing across-the board Division 1 ratings in Concert and Sightreading competition at Denver City. “Both bands received straight ones from all the judges,” said a proud Sonia Carrion, who is wrapping up her first year as Lamesa head director.
