When siblings and business partners Nora Ortiz Juarez and Domingo Ortiz were considering acquiring Lamesa Steam Laundry and Dry Cleaning, they contacted the business’ former employees before making the buy.
They acquired the business from former owner Kenneth Porterfield, who ended his family’s almost eight decades of running the store when he closed the doors in March.
Juarez and Ortiz, already busy with other business ventures, didn’t want to see the city’s only laundry and dry cleaning service close for good.
“It was just another business that was going to close, another two vacant buildings, and seven or eight unemployed people,” Ortiz said.
