Alcohol may have played a part in a local resident shooting himself in the foot early last Saturday morning, according to Lamesa Police Chief Josh Peterson.
Police received a call at 1:33 a.m. reporting that a male was in the emergency room at Medical Arts Hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot.
Investigating officers determined the shooting apparently was the result of an accident by the 52-year-old man while he was handling a .38 Special revolver, Peterson said.
“He was trying to unload his weapon and was somewhat intoxicated,” Peterson said.
