SNYDER – A magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck rural Scurry County Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The 2.8 magnitude earthquake temblor occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., about six miles north-northeast of Hermleigh. The epicenter was about two miles deep, according to the USGS.
A 2.8 magnitude earthquake, according to USGS, does not typically cause damage and can sometimes be felt.
The highest-magnitude quake in recent history was a 4.3 magnitude quake on Sept. 1, 2011. Most recent earthquakes here have been centered north of Snyder near the Kent County line.
