ANDREWS – In recent years, conservative enrollment estimates in the school district’s budget approved before the school year have resulted in surplus funding through student allotments.
That’s because the school district’s through-the-roof enrollment increases—student numbers shot up by more than 1,250 in the past 10 years—created more revenue than budget estimates.
Heading into next school year, the district has over $25 million in its healthy fund balance, but some reserves could be needed to balance a $4 million deficit in the operating budget approved Tuesday night by the school board, according to Andrews ISD Superintendent Bobby Azam.
