Cities and counties across the state saw lighter than expected checks when the Texas Comptroller’s Office distributed monthly sales tax payments this past Monday.
Dawson County’s payment of $61,639 is 31.4 percent lower than the $89,847 payment collected in September 2019.
Total payments made to the county for the entire year, at $667,761, are 13.8 percent lower than the $774,983 collected during the same time period a year ago.
The City of Lamesa saw a bigger check this month but has experienced a slight drop in year-to-date payments.
The city’s $151,989.93 check represents an 8.3 percent increase over last September’s $140,301.
