Lamesa’s city council voted Tuesday night to implement a tax-funded economic development program designed to fund projects within a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.
The vote was unanimous.
Brownfield attorney Jimmy Hammons presented information on the program and said, “It’s a matter of sharing the burden, instead of the city taking the project on alone, its the whole county taking on the project.”
“This is not raising taxes, this is taking existing taxes and using them to the fullest potential”, said Sean Overeynder, interim city manager and director of economic development.
