The local prison is probably the last place you would think about when getting ready for the first day of school.Lamesa students return to school Aug. 13.There is an association between the two.Staff members at the Preston Smith Prison Unit collected a bunch of backpacks to give away.They are handing out those free backpacks from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Thursday at the Dawson County Senior Citizens Center at 609 N Austin Ave.While parents are there, they can take up another opportunity.They can apply for a job to work at the prison as correctional officers.The next academy training session is ...
