Before the recently-concluded 86th Legislative Session began, State Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, predicted a session focused on “big stuff,” like property tax and school finance reform.
He was correct.
And he said property owners and school districts in West Texas will be among the biggest beneficiaries of the legislature’s work.
“We put the voters back in control,” he said of Senate Bill 2 (SB 2), the property tax reform bill that limits most taxing bodies to increasing property taxes by no more than 3.5 percent without triggering an automatic election.
