When the Dawson County Health Department (DCHD) opened its doors Thursday to first time recipients of the Moderna vaccine against coronavirus, 20 people had made appointments to get the shot.
Only nine actually showed up.
The vaccine comes in vials with enough vaccine to inoculate 10 people. Once a vial is punctured, it must be administered within six hours to be effective.
Since fewer than 10 made their appointments on Thursday, there was at least one dose left over.
