While the surface location will be just inside Dawson County, most of a horizontal oil drilling venture planned by Pinon Operating of Midland will be going beneath land in neighboring Martin County. Pinon received a permit from the Texas Railroad Commission on July 18 to drill the Brittany 43-07 1H as about four miles south-southwest of Sparenburg.
