ANDREWS – It could be considered the worst nightmare for a mother with a son in law enforcement—receiving a call that he’d been shot while on duty. Andrews resident Patty Mireles Tidwell experienced it the afternoon of Aug. 31 when her daughter-in-law informed her that her son, Cpl. James Thomas Santana of the Odessa Police Department, had been stuck by gunfire during a mobile mass shooting incident that began in Midland County and moved to Odessa. Santana and a Midland police officer, Zack Owens, were the first to come upon shooter Seth Ator outside the Cinergy movie theater that afternoon.
