With the city’s first homicide this year occurring over the weekend, along with concerns over drug- and gang-related crimes, Lamesa City Council members discussed Tuesday the possibility of funding two more law enforcement officers for a Special Operations unit for the police department.
Their talks came at the tail end of discussions on a proposed budget for 2020- 2021 that just last week was $800,000 in the red.
While estimated revenues in the city’s water, wastewater, solid waste, and golf course funds exceed expen ditures, projected spending is still $401,000 over revenue in the city’s general fund.
