Akyra Morales (left), 16-year-old daughter of Alfredo Jr. and Claudia Morales, was crowned the winner of the Miss Merry Christmas pageant held here Saturday night as part of the Christmas on the Square activities sponsored by the Lamesa Area Chamber of Commerce. Runner-up was Andrea Cantu, 16-year-old daughter of Eleanor and Henry Cantu. Akyra also won the People’s Choice award, with all of the money raised through that contest being donated to a charity of Akyra’s choice. Akyra selected the American Heart Assocation, as the recipient of the funds, as she has had experience with them through her younger sister. ...
