Although Dawson County’s drought index remains fairly low, the threat for wildfires is increasing as things start to dry out after a relatively wet winter, according to Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck. Giving a regular update to the Dawson County Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday, Duyck said Dawson County is now listed at 217 on the Keeth-Byram Drought Index.
