Local residents and everyone else in the 806 area code for telephones and similar devises will soon need to start including the area code even when dialing local numbers.
The Public Utility Commission (PUC) of Texas announced last week that people with phones in seven area codes in Texas should get in the habit of dialing 10 digits for all local calls.
Those 10 digits include the area code in addition to the local phone number.
April 24 will mark the start of a “permissive dialing period” in which callers in the affected area codes can still complete a call with seven-digit dialing.
