A tract of land just east of Lamesa is a proposed new site for possible construction of a new Dawson County jail. Lamesa Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) board members voted Monday evening to sell five acres of land to Dawson County at a price of $2,500 per acre. The land is located on the south side of FM 827 – known locally for many years as Oil Mill Road – just east of a building that previously was used for boll weevil eradication efforts, said Sean Overeynder, executive director of LEDC and the Lamesa Economic Alliance Project (LEAP).
