A little over half a century ago, rodeo roper and barrel racer Sharon Harrison Youngblood and six of her Tarleton State University teammates did something that’s never been repeated or surpassed.
They captured the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) National Champions honors for three consecutive years from 1969-1971.
The team as a whole, along with individuals, also won numerous other events and team championships. The women were the first ladies to be inducted in the Tarleton State University Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2012, and were inducted in the Stephenville Walk of Fame in 2000.
