Dawson County’s first freeze of winter not only came early this year, it arrived with a vengeance.
After a high of 77 degrees here on Sunday, a cold front which arrived that evening dropped Monday’s high temperature to only 40 degrees.
It turned even worse on Tuesday with icing conditions and temperatures that dipped to a low of 24 without ever climbing above the freezing point.
The low temperatures were accompanied by freezing rain that coated trees and made driving conditions across the area somewhat hazardous Tuesday morning.
Several traffic accidents on slick highways were reported as a result of the icy conditions.
