A delay with the installation of a new public address (PA) system is causing the Klondike school district to delay the start of classes for the upcoming school year, according to Superintendent Steve McLaren.
Instead of starting on Thursday, Aug. 12, classes are now scheduled to begin the following Monday, Aug. 16.
“We weren’t comfortable starting school without a PA system,” McLaren said Thursday, noting a PA system is needed to convey emergency messages throughout the school.
Those two class days that are being taken off the start of the school calendar will be added to the end of the school year.
