Juneteenth proves fun for all

There were winners in several competitions taking place at the annual Juneteenth celebrations over the weekend.Each year organizers host three-days of events recognizing Juneteenth or June 19 in honor of the day when Texas slaves learned slavery ended months after the Civil War ended in April 1865.The announcement came from Galveston on June 19, 1865.One of the events hosted for this year’s celebration were two basketball competitions.Basketball players Keeton Bolton, Daruis Jackson, Jaleel Edwards and Dre Smiley won the $150 prize in the three-on-three tournament held in the Lamesa High School (LHS) gym.
