After a full day of testimony on Tuesday, a trial in 106th District Court here ended abruptly Wednesday morning with the prosecution asking to dismiss the case. Special Prosecutor Deborah Dictson said in her motion for dismissal that the state had determined there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of guilt in the case. That came after the state had called five witnesses to testify in the trial of a 59-year-old man who was accused of official oppression while serving as a major at the Texas prison system’s Smith Unit just outside of Lamesa.
