Gary Jones has officially been hired as the new superintendent of the Dawson school district based in Welch. The action came during the regular meeting of the Dawson school board this past Monday evening. Jones, principal for the Grady school district in Martin County since 2014, was named by the board last month as the sole finalist for the superintendent’s job. By state law, however, schools in Texas must wait 21 days after naming a finalist before they can hire someone for a superintendent’s position.
