Mother Nature is starting to add insult to injury for Dawson County farmers.
With many fields still bare as a result of almost no rainfall during the growing season, farmers with irrigated crops were just getting the harvest season started.
The early cold snap and freezing rain which left everything covered in ice early this week was exactly what they didn’t need.
“This was what they feared,” Gary Roschetzky, the Texas AgriLife Extension county agent for agriculture here, said Tuesday.
“That’s why the farmers were doing everything they could the past few days to harvest what they could.”
