A location just west of Klondike in southern Dawson County will be the site of a horizontal oil drilling operation planned by Reliance Energy of Midland. Alliance received a permit this week from the Texas Railroad Commission to drill the No. 1H Caballo Azul 28-33 at the site about 12.4 miles south of Lamesa. The surface location will be just less than a mile west of the Klondike community and about 400 feet south of FM 828.
