Incumbents Matt Hogg and Ricky Minjarez handily won their primary election contests Tuesday while Mark Shofner snared a big win in the only other contested local race.
Seeking a second term as Dawson County Sheriff, Hogg captured almost 78 percent of the votes to easily defeat challenger Hector Cantu in a Republican primary race.
The only contested county-wide local race in either primary, that race had gained significant attention as both candidates campaigned extensively for the job.
Hogg received 1,480 votes in the final tally while Cantu, a retired corporal with the Texas Highway Patrol, tallied 429.
