As physicians and nurses treat patients of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are well aware that they are fighting battles on two fronts.
Besides caring for those diagnosed with coronavirus medical workers are also fighting to avoid diverting resources from patients suffering from heart conditions, strokes, trauma or other medical conditions.
“We are about three times busier than we were last year and that’s all due to COVID,” said Dr. Anthony Gipson, emergency room director at Medical Arts Hospital (MAH). “But we’re hanging in there.”
