With U.S. Hwy. 180 closed both east and west of Lamesa due to flooding – and even more rain expected – the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is urging everyone to be caution whenever encountering water over roadways.
“As we say around here, ‘turn around, don’t drown,’ – don’t go through flooded roadways,” said Dianah Ascencio, public information officer for TxDOT’s Lubbock district which includes Lamesa.
Lamesa firefighters were called out around noon Tuesday to rescue individuals from an 18-wheeler and a car which both were stranded in a flooded area of Hwy. 180 east of Lamesa.
