Fighting not only the flames but the effects of wind and scorching heat, local firefighters couldn’t keep a blaze from taking a house to the ground at the edge of Lamesa Tuesday afternoon.
It was pretty well a lost cause from the start, as flames were erupting from the house and sweeping through an attached carport when firefighters arrived.
The fire in the 2000 block of N. Elgin Ave. – just east of Sam Stevens Inc. – was reported about 3:12 p.m.
“It was pretty much totally involved when we pulled up,” Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck said.
