Although the county’s drought index number has increased somewhat, it remains relatively low going into the New Year’s Day holiday period, Lamesa Fire Chief Larry Duyck said Monday.
Giving a regular fire-threat update to the Dawson County Commissioners Court, Duyck said Dawson County currently is listed at 293, out of a possible 800, on the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI).
That is an increase of 20 points in the past two weeks but is not enough to create any sharp concern or warrant putting a burn ban in place, Duyck said.
